Year 4
Weekly Update - Friday 23rd January 2026
Summary of this week:
Despite a very rainy week, the children have put smiles on the teachers faces, with their fantastic Young Writer’s Poetry Competition entries! All children had the chance to plan, write and publish a poem within the theme “I have a dream…” These entries have been sent off to the Young Writer’s company and the judges will be choosing winners over the next few weeks. We will be in touch when we hear back!
Aside from this, the children have also been learning how to navigate Scratch on the laptops and have been learning about the rich and poor statuses within Tudor history.
Our Learning Next Week
Our learning next week:
Maths: We will be starting our new unit on Fractions, learning about tenths, hundredths and mixed numbers.
English: We will be starting our new unit on formal complaint letters, based on the theme of Matilda and Miss Trunchbull! We will start by learning our model text and will then be planning our own letters to write.
Reading: We will be unpicking some more chapters from Roald Dahl’s autobiography – “Boy”.
Foundation:
In History, we will be exploring what inventions came about during the Tudor times.
In Art, we will be learning 4 different painting techniques and practising these within our art books.
In RE, we will be exploring how Muslims show Allah respect through their daily rituals.
In Computing, we will be using conditions and sensors to control a Scratch game on the laptops.
In Science, we will be experimenting and learning that the size of vibration effects the volume of a sound.
In PE, we will be doing Tudor Dance with Mrs Line and Hockey with the PE coaches.
Homework
Maths
The Maths homework sheet will be stuck into books and given out on Tuesdays – please could children complete this and hand it in by Friday so teachers can mark, provide feedback and hand back by the following week.
Spelling
Please continue to practise the weekly spelling words at home in whichever way your child finds most useful.
Notices & Reminders
A letter has been sent out to all Year 4 parents to invite them to one of two workshops, which we hope will provide top tips and confidence with the Multiplication Tables Check. On the letter, parents have the opportunity to click a link and sign up for a slot. Please be aware that the first workshop is next Friday 30th January at 2.25pm. The children are welcome to join the parents for this session. Please contact Miss Bullock if you have any further questions about these sessions. We hope to see lots of you there!
