Year 3
Weekly Update - Friday 23rd January 2026
Summary of this week:
We hope you have all had a good week. As well as our usual subjects this week, our children have been working very hard to practice their songs in preparation of the upcoming Matilda performance. The children have also begun to learn their actions/routines for their class song!
Please find in our notices section at the bottom of this update some information about our upcoming immersion day based on our Stone Age History unit.
Core subjects
In English this week, we have been using what we have learned about time adverbials, prepositions and imperative verbs to create our own set of instructions. In Maths, we have completed our unit on division and multiplication (however this is something we will continue to re-visit). In Science, we looked at our results from our experiment last week and used the data to draw scientific conclusions. In Reading, we have been focusing on the text Julian Wants To Be a Mermaid, focusing on our prediction and inference skills.
Foundation
In D&T this week, we used fact-sheets to help us choose a research topic and find key information that will help us create our 3D poster later in the term. In RE, we have been learning about what it means to join the Khalsa in Sikhism and in PSHE we have thought about what we can do to help others overcome challenges by designing special gardens. In Computing, we have started to learn about how a Computer works and what parts are inputs and outputs.
Our Learning next week
In English we will be starting a new text – The Stone Age Boy – which will help us learn how to write our own historical narratives. In Maths, we will be starting to look at our next unit on measurements.
In Science, we have now completed our unit on soil and are moving onto learning about Light. To start, we will be focusing on what a natural or artificial light source is. In our foundation subjects, we will continue to be learning about Sikhism and the 5K’s as well as developing last week’s learning in PSHE to promote and design our own gardens.
Notices & Reminders
Stone age immersion day
As part of our History unit on the Stone Age, we will be delivering an immersion day to both Year 3 classes on Wednesday 11th February (the last week before half term). On our immersion day, the children will take part in a number of different activities that consolidate our learning on what life was like during different periods of the Stone Age.
On this date, please could we ask that the children wear their PE kits and also bring in wellies or old trainers to change into when we do our outdoor activities as well as raincoats etc… in case of poor weather.
At the end of the day, we would like to invite you into the classrooms to see what the children have been doing and give them an opportunity to talk to you about what they have been learning.
If you have any questions, please contact your class teacher via the Year 3 email.
Thank you and have a nice weekend!
