Year 3
Class Updates
We wanted to let you know that, moving forward, class updates on the school website will take place on a half‑termly basis. At the end of each half term, you will be able to see a summary of the learning that has taken place, along with an insight into what is coming up next.
We hope this change helps to simplify communication, with the weekly Newsflash acting as your main “one‑stop shop” for key updates and information about school life and your child’s class.
Welcome to Year 3
In Year 3 this week we have started a number of new topics across our curriculum. One thing that we have continued from last half term is our ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ narrative poems, which the children enjoyed sharing with the Year 1 children in the infant school. We have had lots of cross curricular learning this week, particularly when learning about Ancient Egypt across History, Reading and Art.
Our Learning Next Week:
Maths: We will be consolidating our work on time to the minute and learning about both analogue and digital times.
English: We will be starting a new unit on report writing and creating our own innovated reports based on our model text of ‘The Deadly Mudditch’.
Reading: We will be starting to look at The Railway Children, using retrieval and prediction skills to answer different comprehension style questions.
Foundation:
We will be continuing to learn about Ancient Egypt in History, discussing how historical items found from the time teach us about their lifestyles. In Science, we will be conducting an experiment exploring how the distance of light sources affect the size of shadows.
Notices and Reminders
Pencil Cases
Please could children ensure they have the essentials in their pencil cases such as pencil, glue stick, whiteboard pen etc…
PE DAYS and SWIMMING
To clarify PE days, we will be continuing to have teacher lead PE on Mondays, PE with Mrs Line on Tuesdays and Swimming on Wednesdays.
Nower Wood
If any parents with a DBS would like to support on our trip to Nower Wood, please contact us via the Y3 email address. More details around the trip will be shared with the children, parents and carers next week with regards to the activities, timetable for the day etc…
