Day structure and activities overview

Children spend their mornings in a rich mix of free play and adult-led learning, moving around the space independently and choosing their own resources. The garden opens around 9.30, offering plenty of physical and sensory play, and at about 9.45 a snack bar gives children the chance to develop social skills while sampling a variety of fruit and vegetables. In good weather, snack and story time are often enjoyed outside in the sunshine.

During the morning, children join small adult-led groups focusing on different areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. All children are encouraged to join in tidy up time before lunch and home time to help develop a strong sense of belonging in the setting and taking care of our belongings. During singing and story time, they follow a story and learn two or three action songs across a half-term.

Early Years Foundation Stage

Everything we do is underpinned by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). It is built around three Prime Areas:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development

Focusing on the Prime Areas ensures children develop a strong foundation to underpin the specific areas of Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

Every child at Peter Pan has their own personal Learning Journey documenting their progress, which parents can access at any time through our secure online system, Tapestry.
