Year 3
Weekly Update Friday 10th May 2024
Summary of this week:
Year 3 have enjoyed a very sunny week, taking some of their learning outside. A highlight was making Egyptian papyrus paper using PVA glue, water, and brown paper bag strips. We got very messy, but our pages look amazing! Next week, we look forward to painting our designs onto them. In Maths, we have started our Fractions unit, learning about tenths, halves and finding fractions of amounts. In English, we have enjoyed unpicking our next text – Egyptian Cinderella and we wrote diary entries from the character perspective of Rhodopis. |
Our learning next week:
Maths: We will be continuing our unit on “Fractions”, learning how to compare and order fractions with different denominators.
English: We will be planning and writing our own versions of the story “Egyptian Cinderella”, changing the main characters and the item of clothing that gets stolen by a cheeky animal!
Foundation: In History, we will be learning about the river Nile and why Egyptians found it such a useful natural resource. In Science, we will be learning about fertilisation in plants and how plants reproduce. In Art, we will be painting our final designs onto our Egyptian papyrus paper. In PSHE, we will be finalising our learning about keeping our bodies and teeth healthy. In RE, we will be learning about the 5 Ks of Sikhism. In PE, we will be taking part in athletics activities to prepare for Sports Day and continuing our swimming lessons. |
Homework:
The Maths homework sheet will be given out on Tuesday – please could children complete this and hand it in by Friday so teachers can mark, provide feedback and hand back by the following week.
Please continue to practise the weekly spelling words at home in whichever way your child finds most useful. We also cover these words during our spelling lessons, so it is great if the children have prior knowledge of what we are covering!
Children are also encouraged to continuing using Times Table Rockstars for extra multiplication practise.
Optional History project homework for this half term – please see details below!
|
Notices & Reminders:
The library will be closed this week due to the Year 6 SATs tests, so please keep your library books safe until the final week of term. Please keep your Egyptian homework projects at home until the final week of term, as we have limited space to store them all in the classrooms – thank you! We look forward to seeing these on the week commencing Monday 20th May! A polite reminder to send the children in with sunhats (and cream if necessary) as the weather gets warmer, as many of our lessons will be taken outside.
