Weekly Update Friday 10th May 2024

Summary of this week:

What a fantastic week with fantastic weather! The children have really enjoyed getting outside this week and particularly enjoyed our swimming sessions on Friday. We have been very impressed with the children’s artwork this week where they created some brilliant pictures through using step by step instructions and shapes.

Our learning next week:

Maths In Maths we will be looking at the composition of different numbers, number patterns and number facts such as doubles.
Literacy

We will be introducing our new story ‘The hundred decker bus’. We will be having a go at creating our own story ‘s’ stories and forming our own sentences.

Phonics We will be learning to read words with adjacent consonants and new tricky words ‘were, here, little, says.’
Vocabulary composition, decker bus, double, sketch.

Homework:

Maths:  Play games with one or two dice. Can the children recognise the number of dots immediately? Can they recall the doubles/.

Literacy: Write some sentences about your favourite story.

Vocabulary: Try to incorporate some of the week’s vocabulary into your conversations with the children.

Notices & Reminders:

Sun cream- Now the weather is warm please make sure all children have an all-day sun cream applied in the morning before school. If you would like your child to top up their own suncream please bring in a named bottle for your child to keep in their tray and they can apply it themselves before going out to play or after swimming.

Sun hat- Please make sure your child has a named sun hat in school each day.

Water bottles- Please make sure that only water is given to children in their water bottles.

Please can we collect any junk modelling for our Art lesson next week, cereal boxes and large boxes for outside models would be particularly useful.

Please do have a look at home for any of the school reading books which need returning.  We are particularly keen to find our reading programme books which have the Harper Collins publishing logo and the name ‘Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised’.  If books go missing from our packs of six it means that we can’t use that set until they have been located which then reduces the sets available for the children to read.  Please have a look under the bed, behind the couch or in the car and if you find any books, pop them into the children’s book bags for return.  Thank you very much to those parents who have already had a good look and returned books.  It is much appreciated!

Orange and Yellow Class children are particularly peckish after their Friday swim and if it is possible to send in any additional snacks (breadsticks, rice cakes etc) that we can give them it would be great.  Luckily for Red Class, they go to lunch straight after their swim!

With best wishes, The Reception Team
