We are an inclusive school which celebrates diversity…
We are committed to the successful inclusion of pupils with Special Educational Needs and benefit from two special needs centres. These provide places for children from a wide area of Surrey, who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Relationships and engagement with parents and carers are excellent (Ofsted, Oct 2011)
We offer an inclusive curriculum and programmes to ensure the best possible progress for all children. Successful inclusion is a key aim and this takes different forms depending on the needs of each individual child.
Physiotherapists, speech and language, and occupational therapists are based part-time at both schools and provide advice to staff and parents, and therapy for those children who require it. The educational psychologist and school doctor visit regularly and when necessary staff liaise with other agencies such as sensory support teachers.
All teaching is planned to meet the same national requirements as in the mainstream part of the schools (i.e. Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum). However, the pace of work and strategies may be different.
Each child has a personalised education plan and will be working on key skills and targets. The centres are able to provide small group work and some 1:1 activities in order to meet these targets.
With support, some may be able to work in their mainstream class for the wholeof the school day and others for certain lessons or activities. All children have the choice to be together at social times such as playtime and lunchtime. Special needs teaching assistants provide support in mainstream classes when children integrate, as well as in the centres, the playgrounds and dining halls.
We believe that diversity is a strength which should be celebrated by all those who are associated with the school.
